Also, after I posted my comment, I followed your link to Why Fish Don't Exist and discovered the book is about David Starr Jordan, the man for whom my high school was named! Now I have to read the book!

That's so interesting! Just so you know... the author began with admiration of David Starr Jordan, but learned that he also did and said some pretty reprehensible things, which are covered in the book. I think you'll come away with a very nuanced picture, which is what I like about it. It's not one of those "this is the exact message you need to absorb" books-- it reflects what you bring to it.

That makes me want to read it all the more. I know absolutely nothing about David Starr Jordan.

Hi, Leanne--Happy New Year! I love your word of the year, and the opportunity to see it reflected in stickers, etc. I'll be writing about my word of the year on Catching Happiness this week. It's kind of boring and not as easily transferred to an image, but it has meaning for me in many areas. To compensate for that, I am using the image of a butterfly (which has a special meaning which I may or may not write about publicly) as a touchstone for the year.

I LOVE the idea of adding songs to a playlist! I hope you'll share a few over the course of 2024.

Happy New Year, Kathy! I can't wait to hear about your word on the blog. I'm sure it isn't boring. It's always interesting to see how "words of the year" can be interpreted, even if they seem to mean little to others.

Today I added "Shake it Off" by Taylor Swift simply because my students are obsessed with it and it's stuck in my head anyway :)
